Before and After: Removing a Bedroom Shelving Unit in Dubai

This is one of the most common jobs we get asked about: a large cube shelving unit that was easy enough to build in place, but is now too heavy, too tall and too awkward for one person to get out of a bedroom.
The before and after photo above is a real job. A full-height black cube unit standing against the bedroom wall, gone the same visit, with the wall and floor left clean.
Why These Units Are Harder Than They Look
Flat-pack cube storage is deceptively heavy. A tall unit is usually built from thick particle board, and once it is assembled it behaves like one solid slab. That creates three problems in a Dubai apartment:
- It will not fit through the bedroom door upright. Tilting it risks the door frame and the ceiling.
- Particle board does not survive being dragged. It chips, and the chips scratch tiled floors.
- It rarely fits in a passenger lift without standing it on end, which most building management will not allow.
How We Handled It
Our crew dismantled the unit in the room rather than trying to walk it out whole. Cube units come apart along their shelf joints, which turns one unmanageable slab into flat panels that carry easily and fit in a service lift without scraping anything.
The curtains stayed up, the bed frame beside it stayed where it was, and the wall behind it — visible in the after photo — was left undamaged. That is the part customers actually care about, especially in a rental where the deposit is on the line.
What a Job Like This Costs
A single large furniture item in Dubai typically falls in the AED 150–350 range. Where it lands inside that range depends on:
- Whether the item needs dismantling before it can leave the room
- Floor level, and whether a service lift is available
- How far the truck can park from the building entrance
- Whether anything else is going at the same time
Combining items is almost always cheaper than booking separate visits. If the wardrobe is going next month anyway, send it in the same job.
Before We Arrive
- Empty the shelves completely — we are not able to sort or pack your belongings
- Tell us the floor and whether there is a service lift
- Check if your building needs a move-out permit or a booked lift slot
- Send a photo showing the whole unit, not just a close-up, so we can judge the size
We handle the same job for wardrobes, bookcases, TV units and chest of drawers — see our furniture removal service for the full list.
